The authors describe a new species of anopheline from Marajó Island, Pará, Brasil Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus), marajoara n.
sp., very closely allied to albitarsis. It is characterized by the absence
of white rings on the apex of the third fore tarsus, mid tarsi and first
hind tarsus; post lateral tufts from the fourth to the seventh abdominal
segments; double line of white scales on the firsts abdominal sternite;
fused dorsal lobes of the male terminalia mound-like and very pilose;
anal lobe bare except on the very end of the lateral portions of its base,
where there are a few minute hairs. The larva show the inner anterior
clipeal hairs without branches and implanted wide apart; outer clipeal
hairs with short branches; posterior clipeal hairs long and not branched
on one side and biramous on the other; inner sub-median prothoracic
hair with palmate leaflets and arising from the same sclerite as that of
the hair at its outer side; tergal plate of eighth abdominal segment about
1.5 larger than the seventh.
