Resumen
The male and the female of Lutzomyia (simples). (Nyssomyia) shawi n. sp., from the State of Pará, Brazil, are described. The female has spermathecae which resemble closely those of L. (N.) anduzei (Rozeboom, 1942) and L. (N.) umbratilis Ward& Fraiha, 1977, but can be distinguished on the form of the individual sperm ducts, which are smoothwalled and sub-parallel, not inflated basally as in L. anduzei, or striated as in L. umbratilis. The male has all four spines on the dististyle set at different levels, but can be distinguished from the other species in the subgenus which share this feature, L. oliverioi (Barretto & Coutinho, 1941) and L. fraihai Martins, Falcão & Silva, 1979, by the presence of a tuft of setae on the internal face of the basistyle. The name is given in honour of Dr. Jeffrey J. Shaw, of the Instituto Evandro Chagas, Belém, Pará, Brazil
